The new I-9 form is required to be used by all employers by Sept. 18, 2017. There are three primary reasons that you want to be sure to start using the forms, get used to the different wording and there are a few substance changes that are important.
We wanted to give you a heads up so you can be ready in time for the Sept. 18 2017 deadline.
So many times employers don’t realize there is a new form that is required. Employers have asked – what is the big deal? Why should we care?
- First – No one wants an Audit. They are just not fun. They can come in to your business and look at any employee records, ask questions and cite you with incredible fines. We have a few suggestions in this training to help you with that.
- Second – There are fines and back wages that your company has to pay.
- Third – May be required to undergo ongoing reporting with formal review and monitoring by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS)
This is the 2nd new I-9 form during the past 12 months. The most recent was Nov 2016. Every time a new form is released, it is important to use new form. You can use the paper version or you can use the on line form. The advantages of using the on line version are that it offers links and always should have the most updated info.
The stated goal by the federal government as to updating this form was to simplify wording, format and make it more user friendly.
